Make Granny Squares
Crochet 13 Regular Granny Squares.
Sew with a yarn needle and thyme yarn color
Arrange 6 squares together for 1 side
and then again for the other side
alternating the colors as seen
in the pictures.
Crochet around the rectangle of squares as follows:
Start in the corner - connect orange yarn and * 3 dc, ch1, 3 dc, ch 1, 3dc, ch1
Crochet in the same pattern all the way around starting at *.
Then sc around your project 1x but remembering to crochet 3 sc ch1 3 sc in the corners.
ss to close at the end of the round.
Stay at the top of your project now, chain three, dc in the second sc all the way across
dc in every st. turn and do that again 2x. There should be 3 rows of dc. Make sure the rows stay even at the ends.
When you finish both sides of your tote.
Place the two sides together evenly. Sc into each st around 3 sides.
Leave the long side open - which is the opening to your tote.
Sc around the top 2 rows. Weave in any loose
threads using matching yarn and a yarn
needle and cut excess threads.
Make Flap
Use the 13th granny square to make a tote flap. Sew the one end
down on the center back of your tote with matching thread and a yarn needle.
Place three button at the front matching then up with the corner holes and center hole.
Sew them down securely Then you can button your tote closed.
Handles
Make Two Handles
Now ch 60 with double threads in orange leaving 2 1/2 in leads and ends. 10 x
Twist 5 chains together then tie and sew the ends down leaving your tassels at the ends. 2x
You should have two twisted handles attached evenly when you are done.
Trim the tassels evenly.
Make 4 Flowers
Embellish with crochet flowers
Using double threads of the orange.
Ch 5 connect with a ss to make a ring.
ch *7 then ss into the ring repeat 6 times at * ( a six petal flower)
ss closed. Pull the 2 strings downward. Make 4 total.
Place your flowers at the bottom corners of your top granny square.
Use your crochet hook to pull the threads to the inside of the
tote and tie them with a three ties knot. Cut off the excess threads.
Look at the pictures. Do this on both sides.
Liner
Outline the size of your bag
Onto folded lace fabric.
(I just laid my bag on top of the fabric
and cut around it.)
Sew all the side except for the top opening
with a half-inch seam.
Iron the top opening a half-inch outward.
The outside should show all the seams.
Place your liner inside of your bag
pushing corners into the corners of the bag.
With orange thread and regular needle,
Tack the corners from the outside of the bag.
Every 2 inches or so tac down the
top lining to the inside of the bag.
at least an inch down.
Look at the pictures.
Tip
I put the 6000 glue
under the gaps
between the tacking.
Very lightly.
I put Strong Elmer's glue underneath the
flowers to keep them from bunching up.
It stiffens them a little bit.
Hide all your yarn threads
