Plastic Canvas Ornaments

 Plastic Canvas Ornaments

Here are the detailed instructions and color-coded stitching graphs for four of the unique ornaments seen in the image: the Candy Cane, the Gingerbread Man, the Sparkling Tree, and the Snowflake.

All projects use 7-count plastic canvas and worsted-weight yarn. A Continental Stitch (/) is used for all fills, and a Whipstitch is used for edges.

Project 1: Classic Candy Cane

Materials: Red Yarn, White Yarn, Red Ribbon.

Instructions:

  1. Cut: Cut the main "J" shape from the plastic canvas (approx. 6 holes wide, 28 holes tall along the straight edge).

  2. Stitch Stripes: Starting from the bottom curve, complete 3 horizontal rows of Continental Stitch in White. Then, complete 3 rows in Red. Repeat this pattern (3 White, 3 Red) all the way to the top.

  3. Edge: Whipstitch the perimeter of the straight edges using Red yarn, and the curved edges using White yarn to maintain the stripe pattern.

  4. Finish: Tie a small red ribbon bow and attach it to the crook of the candy cane using a few stitches of red yarn.

Color Stitch Graph (Section of the Curve):

Project 2: Cheerful Gingerbread Man

Materials: Brown Yarn, White Yarn (for icing), Red Yarn (for bow tie), 2 small black beads (for eyes), small tapestry needle.

Instructions:

  1. Cut: Cut the gingerbread man silhouette from the canvas.

  2. Fill: Fill the entire body, arms, head, and legs using Brown yarn in Continental Stitch.

  3. Icing Trim: Using White yarn and a straight stitch, create small zig-zag lines across the wrists and ankles.

  4. Bow Tie: Make a small "X" or a small bow shape using Red yarn at the neck.

  5. Eyes: Sew two small black beads onto the face for eyes. Alternatively, use French Knots with black yarn.

  6. Edge: Whipstitch the entire perimeter using Brown yarn.

Project 3: Sparkling Christmas Tree

Materials: Kelly Green Yarn, Brown Yarn (trunk), Gold or Yellow Yarn (star), Multi-color Sequins, Gold Seed Beads, Clear Thread or Craft Glue.

Instructions:

  1. Cut: Cut a triangle shape for the tree (approx. 20 holes wide at the base, 24 holes tall) and a small 4x4 square for the trunk.

  2. Fill Tree: Fill the entire triangle with Continental Stitch using Kelly Green yarn.

  3. Fill Trunk: Stitch the small square with Brown yarn and attach it to the bottom center of the tree back.

  4. Decorate: Attach multi-color sequins to the green stitched area. Option A (Sewing): Use clear thread and a gold seed bead in the center of each sequin to anchor them. Option B (Glue): Use a small dot of craft glue for each sequin.

  5. Star: At the very top peak, stitch a small star using Yellow or Gold yarn.

  6. Edge: Whipstitch the tree perimeter in Green and the trunk in Brown.

Project 4: Icy Star Snowflake

Materials: White Yarn, Light Blue Yarn, Silver Metallic Thread (optional, mixed with white), small clear gemstone/bead.

Instructions:

  1. Cut: Cut a six-pointed star shape.

  2. Stitch Base: Fill the entire star shape using White yarn (or the White/Silver mix) in Continental Stitch.

  3. Blue Detail: Following the star arms, stitch a diagonal line of Light Blue yarn over the white fill to create the inner star pattern.

  4. Center: Attach a small clear gemstone or a large silver bead to the very center of the star using clear thread or strong glue.

  5. Edge: Whipstitch the entire perimeter using White (or White/Silver mix) yarn.
