Poinsettia Arrangement Plastic Canvas

STEP-BY-STEP STITCHING PLAN - Flowers & Leaves

You will use 2 strands of worsted yarn together on 7-count plastic canvas.

POINSETTIA PETAL - Red & White (Make 20 total - 5 petals x 4 flowers)

Step 1 - Outline:

  • Count 12 holes wide x 15 holes tall for one petal - pointed oval shape
  • Whipstitch outline in Red DMC 321 for red flowers, White for white flowers

Step 2 - Fill:

  • Fill inside with Continental Stitch - diagonal / / / across rows
  • Keep all stitches going same direction for smooth look
  • For red: DMC 321 Red, for white: White yarn

Step 3 - Shape Curve:

  • After stitched, gently bend petal at base - fold up 15 degrees
  • Use your needle tip to crease - do NOT cut canvas, just bend yarn slightly
  • This gives natural flower curve

Step 4 - Yellow Center (French Knots):

  • Cut yellow yarn 12" long, 2 strands
  • Make 6-7 French knots clustered together in center where petals will meet
  • Wrap yarn around needle 2x, poke back through same hole

Step 5 - Assemble Flower:

  • Lay 5 petals in star shape, tips out, bases touching yellow center
  • Sew bases together with yellow yarn - go through base hole of each petal 2x
  • Pull tight so petals form circle

Step 6 - Attach Wire Stem:

  • Cut 22-gauge green floral wire 6" long
  • Push through center yellow knots from back to front, bend tip to hook
  • Wrap base of petals with green yarn over wire for 1" to secure

HOLLY LEAF - (Make 6-8)

Step 1 - Cut Shape: 8 wide x 10 tall, with 3 points on each side - holly shape
Step 2 - Stitch: Continental stitch in Green DMC 700 - solid fill
Step 3 - Berries: 3 Red French knots clustered at stem end - DMC 321
Step 4 - Wire Edge: Lay 5" floral wire along center spine on back, whipstitch over it with green yarn - now you can bend leaf for natural shape

PINE BRANCH - (Make 6)

Step 1 - Stem: Straight stitch 1x15 holes - long line in Green DMC 700
Step 2 - Needles: For each side, make 3-hole straight stitches angled up - 4-5 per side
Step 3 - Fluff: Gently separate needle stitches with needle tip so they fan out like real pine

Final Assembly Tip: Once all pieces are stitched, push all wire stems into your floral foam block in the basket - tallest pine in back center, poinsettias in middle ring, holly low around edge.
